I'm extremely excited about this project, it features some of my favourite musicians I love to play with including keyboard wizard Mitchel Forman, trumpeter Rick Braun, Fender Rhodes groovemeister Rodney Lee and an array of my great friends including Dino Soldo, Larry Steen, Jimmy Earl, David Karasony, Oscar Seaton, Dan Lutz, Andre Berry, and my string quartet including Nikki Garcia, Barbra Porter, Tom Tally & Cameron Stone. I had ideas to delve much further into orchestration and get deeper into experimental composition after my Blue Bolero album, but when I started writing, as the way it often is, the universe had a different plan for me. As much as I wanted to get all dark and windswept, the minute I started writing I wanted things to be more joyful and upbeat, but with a canvas to write lush strings. The result is a very dreamy sounding record with tons of groove. It's kind of the sum of all my albums so far. I'm playing a little differently, picking a fender strat for the most part, but with a big fat clean (sometimes a little edgy) jazz sound. I haven't abandoned my trusty Benedetto archtop of course, and there is a little drum & bass on the album too featuring it. I'm thrilled with it. The music is going to be really fun to play live and I hope you enjoy it as much as I had fun making it.  |
